A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a teenager was found with serious injuries in a Manchester suburb in what police have called a ‘targeted attack’.

Last night, around 8.10 pm, a 19-year-old man was found lying in the road with serious injuries after reports of an incident between a vehicle and a pedestrian on Porritt Street in Bury, Greater Manchester.

Later in the evening, a man in his 30s was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody for questioning.

‘Despite the best efforts of the emergency services, the man sadly died. The family of the deceased are being supported by specialist officers,’ Greater Manchester Police said.

‘This is a truly tragic incident which has seen a young man lose his life. I would like to reassure the public that this is a targeted attack and there is no wider threat to the community.’

A crime scene remains in place, and investigations are ongoing as officers plan to patrol the area.

‘Local officers will remain in the area making enquiries, as well as an increased number of highly visible patrols overnight and into Tuesday. If you have any concerns, please speak to them.’
