Traffic ground to a halt on the M25 after a serious crash in Essex, causing two-hour delays.
Drivers have been caught in traffic mayhem on the UK’s busiest motorway after a van overturned this morning.
One person was seriously injured and has been taken into hospital, Essex Police told Metro.
The force said: ‘We are still at the scene and there is traffic disruption in the area while we work.’
The crash happened on the anticlockwise carriageway between junction J28 (Brentwood) and J27 (M11), which closed for a collision investigation.

It is causing two-hour delays and 10-mile queues in the area, with traffic trapped at the road block and congestion backing up to Purfleet and the other side of Dartford Crossing.
Traffic is now able to move past the scene, but two lanes out of four remain closed.
A separate incident, a broken-down lorry, is also blocking two lanes further south between junctions J29 and J30, National Highways said.
Frustrated motorists, including parents with children, asked on social media how long they would be held up within the closure.
National Highways said it is ‘likely to take some time’ before drivers will be allowed past the scene.
National Highways said: ‘Emergency services are continuing to work at the scene. Traffic which has been caught within the closure is now passing the scene.
‘Due to this incident and the lane closure for roadworks between J29 and J28, there is now an hour and a half delay on approach.’
Roads are also busier than usual on the nearby A127 Southend Arterial Road near Romford due to the smash. Romford is also seeing traffic delays as the A12 is closed for planned flyover upgrades at the Gallows Corner.
Traffic has been stopped since about 9am, Inrix said.
It said in an alert: ‘Road closed and severe delays due to rolled over van on M25 anticlockwise from J28 A12 (Brentwood / Brook Street Roundabout) to J27 M11.
‘Congestion to J30 A13 (Lakeside) with roadworks queues at J28, and five miles of onlookers opposite back past J27. Stopped just before 09:00. Trapped traffic is now being released past the scene.’
Metro approached the emergency services for a comment.
Elsewhere in Essex, the A414 towards Ongar was closed after a serious crash at about 7.10am today.
The A-road was shut in both directions between Ongar Road and Old Barns Lane.
The M25 – also known as the London Orbital Motorway – carries around 200,000 vehicles each day.
But some drivers are not fans, and it has been crowned the UK’s worst motorway.
