A pensioner is fighting for his life after being hit by a bus in Regent Street in central London.

The collision happened in the busy shopping area at around 1pm today.

The 80-year-old was rushed to hospital in an ambulance in a ‘life threatening condition’.

Police at the scene feared the pensioner might lose both his legs following the crash, The Standard reported.

St Margaret Street was closed off as emergency crews dealt with the incident.

A witness said a cyclist was also knocked off his bike in the crash, The Mirror reports.

A Scottish Express reporter on the scene said members of the public comforted the elderly man as they waited for emergency services.

John Glover said: ‘Around five people were giving the elderly gentleman comfort following the accident.

‘Someone put his head onto a jacket while another was holding his hands until emergency crews arrived.’
