The remnants of Tropical Cyclone Alfred made landfall on Saturday night as a tropical low over mainland Queensland.

The ex-cyclone brought damaging wind gusts of up to 110km/h as it made its way inland about 9pm AEST, after making its way over Bribie Island.

While the system may have been downgraded before crossing the coastline, it’s still packing a punch, with wind and heavy rainfall areas of concern leading into the week.

Here’s a day-by-day breakdown of what to expect from ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred in the days ahead.

Sunday

The tropical low is forecast to generate thick cloud cover over much of south-east Queensland and north-east New South Wales and has prompted severe weather warnings in both states for Sunday.

The Bureau of Meteorology (BoM) is warning people across Queensland’s Southeast Coast, southern parts of the Wide Bay and Burnett and Darling Downs and Granite Belt regions to expect damaging winds and heavy to intense rainfall.

The bureau is forecasting six-hourly rainfall totals between 150 and 180mm and 24-hourly totals between 250 and 350 mm are possible.

Heavy rainfall and damaging wind gusts will also extend well to the south and west, over parts of the NSW Northern Rivers, Northern Tablelands and Mid North Coast today.

Six-hourly rainfall totals between 50 and 100 mm and 24-hourly rainfall totals between 100 and 150 mm are possible.

Monday

According to the Bureau of Meteorology, rainfall will continue across south-east Queensland, including Brisbane, Ipswich, the Sunshine Coast and Gympie, as well as the NSW Northern Rivers, Mid North Coast and eastern parts of the Northern Tablelands extending into the Northwest Slopes and Plains into Monday morning before easing in the afternoon.
