Three children are in hospital after they were hit by a car while playing in west Belfast this evening.

Police were called to the incident at Black Ridge View right before 5 pm, when a reversing car struck the children – two girls and a boy – as they played on the pavement.

The children have been taken to the hospital for treatment, and a 37-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of driving with excess alcohol in his breath.

He’s also being held on suspicion of causing grievous bodily injury by dangerous driving and failing to stop, failing to report and failing to remain where an accident occurred, causing injury.

Anyone who witnessed the accident has been asked to contact the police with dashcam or CCTV footage.
