A Metropolitan Police volunteer has been found guilty of raping and sexually assaulting a 12-year-old girl.

James Bubb, who now identifies as a woman named Gwyn Samuels, groomed the victim online before sexually assaulting her in public, the court heard.

A trial at Amersham Law Courts heard the officer sexually assaulted the girl in public shortly before her 13th birthday, and was forced to pull his trousers up after a dog walker went past him.

Bubb, 27, was also convicted of raping a woman over the age of 18, who he met while posing as a 16-year-old girl online.

His victim said the former volunteer officer used ‘police training techniques’ on her.

Bubb met his child victim on the chat roulette site Omegle in 2018 before then meeting at a Christian festival a few months later.

The girl, whose colour-coded child wristband was clearly visible, said the defendant tried to keep her ‘hidden’ while they were together in public.

The victim said Bubb often discussed ‘the powers he had’ in his role with the Met as a special constable.

Bubb raped his second victim, a woman who he met after she had just turned 18, during an on-off relationship with her between January 2018 and February 2023.

On Thursday, in relation to one complainant, Bubb was found guilty of one count of raping a child under 13, one count of sexual activity with a child, one count of assault of a child under 13 by penetration, and one count of assault by penetration.

He was found not guilty of one count of rape and one count of sexual activity with a child in relation to that girl.

He was also found guilty of one count of rape against another complainant.

All the charges took place between 1 January 2018 and 2 April 2024.

Bubb, of Chesham, Buckinghamshire, will be sentenced at a later date.
