Two Indian students have been killed after a car crash on a roundabout in Essex.

Chaitanya Tarre and Rishi Teja Rapolu, both in their 20s, were killed in the crash involving other students at the Rayleigh Spur roundabout on the A130, near Wickford, shortly after 4.15am on Monday.

Two men from Barking, east London, aged 23 and 24, were arrested in connection with the two-vehicle crash.

They were arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving on Monday, the force said.

Five people have been left in hospital after the horror crash.

The National Indian Students and Alumni Union UK (NISAU) issued a statement saying it was ‘deeply saddened’ by news of the fatal crash.

They said: ‘We are deeply saddened by the tragic road accident in Essex, UK, involving nine students from the Telugu community.

‘The accident has claimed the precious lives of two young students, Chaitanya Tarre and Rishi Teja Rapolu.

‘Our heartfelt condolences go out to their families and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time.

‘Several other students remain in hospital and under urgent medical care.

‘We are keeping them and their families in our thoughts and prayers, and we hope for their swift and full recovery.

‘NISAU stands in solidarity with all the students and families affected by this tragedy.

‘We are working closely with community members and relevant authorities to ensure the wellbeing of the students and to provide support wherever needed.

‘Our thoughts and prayers remain with everyone impacted by this heartbreaking incident.’

Both suspects have since been released on bail until November 20.

Police said an investigation into the crash is ongoing.
