The Post Office has revealed plans to hand over its remaining directly-owned branches to franchisees by the autumn.
Around 108 crown branches which are currently directly owned and run by the company are facing new ownership, but others could close as franchises are moved to different premises.
There are roughly 11,500 Post Office branches in the UK – around 108 are ‘wholly-owned’ by the company while the rest operate out of partners like WHSmith.
The Post Office has been gutting its wholly-owned branches, known as crown post offices, for years.
In 2012, there were almost 400. But by March 2023, however, there were only 117.
