Make sure your brollies are at the ready during Easter egg hunts because the UK’s weather is set to change drastically.

People enjoyed sunshine across the country this past weekend with the warmest day of the year so far (24°C) recorded in Northolt, north west London, on Saturday.

However, the Met Office has forecast a drastic change in conditions heading into the Easter bank holiday.

Met Office’s chief meteorologist Jason Kelly said it is time to ‘say goodbye to the wall-to-wall sunshine’.

Clouds moved in this morning, bringing patchy rain mainly to the western parts of the British Isles, while the eastern side and London still see a blue sky.

And the weather has more in store for this week as there is a chance of heavier rain between Tuesday and Thursday before it turns into ‘sunshine and showers’ for many, the forecaster warned.

Rain will get heavier in the western parts of Wales, North West and the southwestern tip of England tonight.

Temperatures will hover around the average for this time of the year, the Met Office said.

What about the Easter bank holiday weather?

There will be some ‘persistent outbreaks of rain’ forming in many parts of the UK on Good Friday, with even ‘risk of hail and thunder’ with strong winds, the Met Office said.

Its long-term forecast says: ‘Showers or longer spells of rain are likely across many regions, these heavy at times with a risk of hail and thunder, perhaps accompanied by strong winds.

‘Some drier and brighter interludes are also likely at times, but probably with large amounts of cloud.’

London Easter weather forecast

London is forecast to avoid the worst of the rainy weather over the Easter weekend.

Temperatures will reach around 16C on Good Friday, with a chance of light rain in the afternoon.

Saturday and Sunday’s temperatures will peak at around 16C along with sunny spells.

Easter Monday is set to be dry, with the sun peeking from the clouds with maximum temperatures of around 17C.
