A woman in her 40s was found ‘seriously injured’ before her death in southeast London this morning.

The alarm was raised at about 6.41am this morning after a seriously injured woman was discovered on Hatfield Close in Lewisham.

Crews from the London Ambulance Service rushed to the road, which has apartment blocks and semi-detached homes.

The first responders and air ambulance crews found the woman with serious injuries.

Despite the best efforts of the medics, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

About 10 minutes after the alarm was raised, a 44-year-old man arrived at Lewisham police station at around 6.52am.

He was arrested on suspicion of murder and he remains in custody.

While the identity of the victim has not been revealed, the parties are thought to have been known to each other, Metro understands.

The woman’s next of kin has been informed and they are being supported by specially trained officers.

A post-mortem examination has also been ordered while the investigation continues.
