A man has been charged with murder following the alleged domestic violence death of a woman in remote Western Australia on Easter Sunday.

Police and paramedics were called to an address on Fourth Street in the Mowanjum Aboriginal community near Derby, in WA’s Kimberley region, at around 7.45am on Sunday.

A 39-year-old woman was found at the home unresponsive.

She was taken to Derby Hospital, where she was later declared dead.

Police allege the victim was assaulted by a 38-year-old man known to her in a domestic violence incident.

The man was found at the scene and arrested.

It’s alleged he breached a 72-hour domestic violence order and protective bail conditions.

He was charged with murder, breaching a police order and breaching protective bail conditions.

The man is set to appear before Derby Magistrates Court today.
