Vladimir Putin’s attack dogs have turned on Britain after Sir Keir Starmer vowed to increase annual defence spending to a level last seen after the Cold War.

On the eve of his departure to meet Donald Trump in Washington, the UK prime minister told Parliament that the boost was necessary to provide Ukraine and Europe support in a ‘new era’.

Russian propagandists made the best of their TV airtime and accused the ‘miserable wretch’ PM of ‘turning a blind eye’ to ‘immigrant crime’ in the UK while throwing £6 billion a year at surging the armed forces.

All accused him of ‘sleeping’, and failing to understand that the US does not want a Western military confrontation with Russia.

Host Olga Skabeeva – often hailed as Putin’s ‘Iron Doll’ – said Sir Keir had told Britain that ‘by bowing down to Putin, you are not showing patriotism’.

‘Real British patriotism is an eternal war with Russia,’ she posted.

Raging Putin TV propagandist Vladimir Solovyov derided British premier Sir Keir Starmer over the ??6 billion a year boost to defence spending.

Vladimir Solovyov, another one of Putin’s propagandists, also raged on TV – somewhat incoherently – and derided the PM for being way too late to the game.

He said: ‘Starmer gave a press conference. Putin’s invasion will not stop at Ukraine’s borders. The only answer to Putin is force, he said, and so he cried.

‘We are three years late in responding to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.

‘We will station our forces in Ukraine if we get American guarantees. We will host a number of leaders later this week to discuss the situation in Ukraine.

‘Starmer, you must have been sleeping somewhere. Macron has already hosted the leaders twice, and it did not work out.’

Solovyov once again threatened to make Britain a testing ground for one of Russia’s high-speed underwater nuclear drone, which he claims could sink the UK under a tidal wave.

‘In fact, your island, once again, is perfect for the Poseidon [Russian high-speed underwater nuclear drone] trial…’ he warned.

‘Well, take it easy, you miserable wretch… [Britain is] a country with bad weather and disgusting food.’

This came just hours after Sir Keir announced the UK will aim to spend 2.5 per cent of GDP on defence every year from 2027 and 3 per cent in the next Parliament.

The figure would mean a £13.4 billion increase in defence spending, he told MPs.

This would partially be paid for by a cut in international aid spending from 0.5 per cent of gross national income to 0.3 per cent.
