Two men and one woman have been found dead in Blackpool as police issue a warning over ‘contaminated drugs’.

Officers are urging local drug users to ‘seek immediate medical attention’ if they feel unwell or show different symptoms than expected.

A 31-year-old man from the seaside town has been arrested on suspicion of supplying Class A drugs.

He was bailed pending further enquiries.

Detective Inspector Isobel Garratt, of Blackpool Police, said: ‘Our advice would be for users to seek immediate medical attention if they notice any different symptoms or start to feel unwell.

‘There is no safe way of taking drugs, and no way of knowing exactly what you are putting into your body and whether it is safe.

‘Lancashire Constabulary takes a proactive response into tackling the issue of drugs in the county.’

Blackpool has the highest rate of deaths linked to drug abuse in the country.

There were 126 deaths from drug poisoning between 2021 and 2023, a rate of 31.9 per 100,000 population.

Over three quarters of drug abuse deaths in the seaside town were men.

This morning Blackpool South’s MP Chris Webb praised Labour’s plan for a crackdown on anti-social behaviour in town centres.

Labour’s new Crime and Policing Bill will expand police powers to drug test on arrest in a bid stop drug-related crimes.
