Two cuddly toys sold at Home Bargains are being urgently recalled over safety fears.

The rabbit and chick toys, being sold in time for Easter, could pose a serious health risk to children, it’s been warned.

The products were found to have weaknesses which could allow children to pull them apart.

The affected products, which are 25cm tall, have three Easter-themed designs: a white rabbit, a pink rabbit, and a yellow chick.

The toys, which were made in China, all feature the barcode number 10811016 and the risk level associated with their use was described as ‘serious’.

A notice issued by the government’s Office for Product Safety and Standards said: ‘The products present a serious risk of asphyxiation as it has been identified that the limbs of the toy can become easily detached due to the weakness of the seams.

‘As a result, the internal fibrous stuffing material is easily accessible. A child may access the stuffing material and place it in their mouth.

‘Consumers who have purchased any of the Easter plush toys should stop using it immediately and keep out of the reach of children.

‘To obtain a full refund, please return the toy to your nearest Home Bargains store.’

The notice added the products do not meet the requirements of the Toys (Safety) Regulations 2011.

Elsewhere, there have been a number of products recalled by the Food Standards Agency in recent weeks over fears of contamination.

Iceland had to recall its Vegetable Lasagne as it could contain plastic, Kelly Loves sushi ginger had to be recalled over fears it could contain glass, and a Rude Health cereal was recalled as it could be contaminated with insects.
