
A woman has died after being hit by a car trying to escape from the police in northwest London.
Police, paramedics and an air ambulance responded to the crash on Grahame Park Way, across the road from Colindale Police Station shortly after 3pm today.
Despite being treated there, the woman was declared dead soon after.
The crash was witnessed by children and parents leaving the nearby primary and secondary schools during pick-up time.
It was initially claimed that a young child had also been hit, but the Met confirmed only one fatality.
A spokesperson said: ‘The car had driven away from a police vehicle prior to the collision taking place.
‘Officers provided treatment to the woman prior to the arrival of London Ambulance Service. However, despite the efforts of the emergency services the woman died at the scene.
‘Road closures remain in in place.
‘The car did not stop but was found abandoned a short time later. Work is ongoing to locate the occupants of the car.
‘There has been no arrests and enquiries continue.’
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said: ‘We were called at 3.08pm today to reports of a road traffic collision on Grahame Park Way.
‘We sent a number of resources to the scene, including ambulance crews, an advanced paramedic, a clinical team manager and an incident response officer. We also dispatched London’s Air Ambulance.
‘Very sadly, despite the best efforts of our crews, a woman was pronounced dead at the scene.’
