A man has been charged with murder after an alleged home invasion in Sydney’s west.

Police were called to reports of a home invasion on Union Road in Penrith in the early hours of Saturday, March 8.

At the scene, police were told that two people had allegedly broken into a unit and assaulted a 60-year-old man.

Police are investigating after a man died following an alleged home invasion in Sydney's west in the early hours of the morning.

The man was treated by paramedics, but his condition deteriorated and he died at the scene.

Local officers along with the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad began an investigation.

This morning, detectives stopped a car on Paton Street in Merrylands, and arrested a 36-year-old man.

He was taken to Granville Police Station where he was charged with one count of murder, and one count of aggravated break and enter.

He was refused bail and was expected to appear in Parramatta Local Court today.

Police said they were also searching a home on Ivy Street in Toongabbie.

Anyone with information has been asked to come forward to police.
