She is one of the most recognisable memes on the internet and has finally revealed how the moment came about.

We are talking about ‘Bored club girl’, aka Lucia Gorman, whose expression was captured on a night out at the Milk Club in Edinburgh in 2018.

The photo features her friend Patrick from school who approached her in the club looking like he’s got something important to say.

But the problem is Lucia can’t remember what he was saying and her expression is shown across her face.

Lucia has revealed that she wanted to go home in that moment following the night out and had no idea the photo would become so famous.

She said to JOE: ‘While it looks really staged, it was completely not and I was so off guard that I don’t even know how to do that face like people do.

‘I feel like a lot of women in the world probably really understand, and whilst he wasn’t being horrible, I think girls in clubs get the brunt of men just explaining things that you don’t need to hear.’

Lucia said her face is the ultimate mansplaining meme and that it speaks to all women who have been in clubs and just had enough.

Unsurprisingly, people ask her to recreate the meme all the time and some have taken pictures of her in lectures while she was at university.

She struggles to do the face now but joked that she needed her friend Patrick back to recreate the iconic image once again.

She added: ‘I really struggle to do the face that I was doing in it.

‘I find it quite hard to do the like moody, grumpy, uninterested expressions, but maybe I should just get Patrick back in my ear again and we can try to recreate it.’

Lucia has teamed up with Samsung to highlight the new Best Face feature on their new A Series range – a tool designed to prevent common photo mishaps.
