A ‘drunken thug’ who left his victim needing reconstructive surgery has been banned from every single pub in the country.

Paul Ormond capped off a day of drinking by assaulting a man in the Turks Head pub in Retford, Nottinghamshire, last year.

Ormond, 38, cocked his fist and took a ‘powerful’ swing at the pub-goer following an argument at around 10.40pm on July 6.

The victim was left with facial fractures to his eye, nose and cheeks, which required multiple surgeries and plates in his face.

He lost a stone because he was unable to eat solid food and lost thousands of pounds in pay from being unable to work.

Ormond, of Carolgate, pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm without intent and was sentenced on Thursday.

The lout had been drinking heavily when he launched at his victim in the Turks Head pub in Retford, Notts. The victim was in the pub at 10.40pm on July 6 last year when Ormond punched him so hard he suffered a broken eye socket, smashed nose and cheeks. The prosecution told Nottingham Crown Court how there was a ‘significant disparity’ between the sizes of the two men.

Ormond had drunk 10 pints of lager while watching football, a probation officer said, according to the Worksop Guardian.

The last thing the victim could remember from the night was seeing Ormond ‘turn as if he was going to walk away’ before he punched him.

Waking up, a surgeon at Rotherham hospital told the man that the reconstructive surgery he underwent was ‘dangerous’ and could have left him disfigured and blind.

He had another surgery to realign his shattered jaw.

‘All in all, it has been several weeks of hell for me,’ he said.

‘I know that I don’t look like I did before and I feel really down about it.’

Judge Recorder Sprawson, sentencing, called him a ‘drunken thug’ and banned him from entering pubs in England and Wales for two years.

He must wear an alcohol monitoring tag for 120 days. The tag measures his sweat every 30 minutes to determine whether he has consumed alcohol.

Ormond was ordered to carry out 120 hours of unpaid work and pay £7,500 in compensation to the victim.

Officer Andrew Sansom said: ‘This was a vicious attack which continues to have a significant impact on the victim to this day.

‘We hope the sentencing makes a serious impact on the offender’s future choices.’
