Australian billionaire Adrian Portelli has handed out hundreds of thousands of dollars in supermarket gift cards at Queensland shopping centres today.
The giveaway attracted large crowds at Coles Nerang on the Gold Coast this morning, where queues stretched out the door, before Portelli moved onto Coles Redbank Plaza.
Some shoppers had camped out from 7am for the chance to get the $200 Coles gift cards.

“We’re all doing it tough, all of us, so he’s come at the right time,” one shopper said.
“It means a lot on a pension, disability pension, it doesn’t go far enough. Now I can lavish out for Easter, I guess, for the grandchildren and the great grandchildren,” another shopper said.
Others still managed to get a gift card after they arrived at 9am.

“Was it worth it? Oh, my word it was worth it,” one woman said.
“I would’ve been here at 7am if I could get here.”
Portelli said he had given out $140,000 worth of gift cards across the day to help people battling the cost of living.
“People are doing it tough out there, so if you’ve got the means to do it, you might as well,” he said,
The billionaire said on social media his next giveaway will be at Coles at Lismore Square Shopping Centre in northern NSW at 10am tomorrow.
