A South Australian fisherman has captured drone footage of a great white shark lurking just metres from a popular South Australian beach.

Brett Mensforth, an experienced angler, says he was shocked at how close the shark was to shore.

“(It’s) definitely the first one that I have seen right in close,” he said.

A South Australian fisherman has captured drone footage of a great white shark lurking just metres from a popular South Australian beach.

“I have seen more sharks in the last 12 months than I have in the last ten years,” Mensforth said

Recent weeks have seen a surge in shark sightings along South Australian coastlines, including at Sellicks Beach, Aldinga, Maslin Beach, Seaford, Aldinga Beach, and Normanville.

A dead great white was also discovered at Port Willunga.

South Australian shark expert Andrew Fox says unusual weather conditions may be causing the unusual movements.

“We suspect it’s due to the record high water temperatures and probably associated with an algae bloom that could be quite toxic to them,” he said,

Authorities are encouraging beachgoers to report shark sightings.
