Mystery surrounds the disappearance of a British man who vanished over the weekend while with friends in Amsterdam.

Ryan Jones, 34, said that he had forgotten his passport so went to get it on Sunday afternoon.

He then made ‘brief’ telephone contact with his group at 2.17pm, but has not been heard from since.

Dutch police have launched a search for Ryan who is 6ft 4ins (1.93m) tall and has a tattoo on his right forearm.

When he was last seen, he was wearing a white baseball cap.

It is not known where Ryan is from in the UK. He had been on a weekend break with friends before he was due to return via Schiphol Airport.

A number of British travellers have gone missing in the Netherlands in recent years, with some cases ending in tragedy.

In 2023, a traveller who disappeared after being dropped off at a hospital by a friend after a ‘psychotic breakdown and hallucinations’ was found dead in a ditch near the facility.

Thomas Delafay, 20, from Plymouth, was last sighted near Dijklander Hospital in the city of Hoorn, around 20 miles north of Amsterdam.

Dutch police said his body was found in a ditch near the facility after a search operation.

His sister, Holly Delafay, told Plymouth Live that her heart was ‘broken’ and her soul was ‘crushed’.

She thanked those who had helped share her appeal for information about her missing brother and said: ‘We will miss you so much, I don’t know what to do with my life now that you’re not in it.

‘I feel so lost without my baby brother.

‘You mean the absolute world to me and I’m so lost and broken without you. You’re my best friend. I love you so so much.

‘Fly high and rest easy baby bro.’

Mr Delafay’s death was not believed to have been as the result of crime, according to Dutch police.

Dutch newspaper AD said he was taken to hospital after taking drugs at a house party, but never entered the building after arriving.

A spokesperson for the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office said: ‘We are supporting the family of a British man reported missing in The Netherlands and are in contact with the local authorities.’
