An MMA fighter who goes by the nickname “the Smiling Assassin” was hospitalised after a shooting last night in Sydney.

Police say a man was driving his truck down Donald Street in Yennora about 11.20pm when another vehicle pulled up in front of him before a man got out and fired several shots into the truck.

The victim, identified as Hayder Khudair, was captured on CCTV running from his truck to a nearby home where he pleaded for help before jumping a fence.

9News understands Khudair trains at the Australian Top Team gym at Wentworthville, the same gym where a gunman disguised as a delivery driver opened fire in February last year in the alleged attempted murder of a former UFC fighter.

Police say this was the second attempt on Khuchair’s life after shots were fired at him at Yennora earlier this month.
