A 19-year-old dad who died when he was deliberately knocked down has been identified.

Brandon Kershaw was found lying in the road with serious injuries at 8.10 pm on Monday evening in Bury, Greater Manchester.

His family has paid tribute to him, saying: ‘We are all truly shocked and heartbroken by the sudden loss of Brandon.

‘He was a gentle, kind-hearted young man whose warmth and social nature touched everyone around him. Brandon was a devoted dad to his young daughter, whom he loved deeply.

‘His family meant everything to him, and the bond he shared with his mum was incredibly special; they were best friends.

‘As we come to terms with this devastating news, we kindly ask for privacy as we grieve and support one another through this difficult time.’

Among the floral tributes at the scene was a card that said ‘I love you, Daddy’ on the front.

It is the second tragedy they have faced in the last five years after relative Cole Kershaw, 18, was gunned down during a bitter feud between his best friend and another man.

He was not the intended target, but he died in the crossfire when he was shot in the chest.

Kamran Mohammed and Mohammed Izaarh Khan Khayam Ali Khurshid pursued a car in which Cole was a passenger. When Cole attempted to flee, Mohammed fired three shots, one of which fatally wounded Cole.

Following Brandon’s death, police said the attack was targeted and there was no threat to the wider community.

They arrested a 38-year-old man on Tuesday morning, but they do not believe he was behind the wheel at the time.

Detective Chief Inspector David Moores said: ‘We still have people of interest we are keen to speak to. The driver of the vehicle remains outstanding and relentless efforts are currently being conducted by specialist units to locate him.’

A school that was closed yesterday so that investigations could take place reopened this morning.
