The westbound carriageway on the M62 near Huddersfield is closed causing major tailbacks after a fire ripped through a lorry.

The blaze, between junction 24 (Ainley Top) and 22 (Rishworth Moor) in west Yorkshire was reported at 6.55am this morning, with fire crews called to the scene.

Photos show the lorry on fire with huge plumes of black smoke.

On its website, National Highways says there are currently delays of up to an hour, with 6 miles of congestion, ‘almost back to J26 (Bradford South)’.

It advised the following diversion: from J24 – follow the solid square symbol, via the A629 north, the A646 and A58 west, through Sowerby Bridge and then the A672 south from Ripponden, to return to to J22.
