
A man has suffered life-changing injuries after he was shot in an incident near a village pub.
He was hit by armed police at 9pm yesterday close to the Park Gate Inn in Hollingbourne, Kent.
Police were called to a house opposite the pub and requested back-up from the counter terrorism unit and the Army’s bomb squad.

People in the pub were urged to leave for their own safety, while those living nearby said there was a significant police presence overnight.

It has been confirmed that the man was shot at the scene and taken to hospital, where he remains this morning.
The A20 was closed following the incident and police watchdog, the IOPC, is investigating.
They said in a statement: ‘We have sent investigators to the scene and the police post-incident procedure to begin gathering evidence. Our investigation is in the very early stages.’

A 100-metre police cordon was set up around the home, with forensics teams and armoured police vehicles continuing to secure the area.
Ashford Road remains closed in both directions between Greenway Court Road and Penfold Hill.
