A magnitude 4.8 earthquake has been recorded in Western Australia early today.
It happened about 180km east of Perth in the Wheatbelt region, just after 2am (AWST).
Geoscience Australia says the earthquake began near the town of Wyalkatchem at a depth of 1km.

It was felt extensively throughout the state’s south-west, including Perth and as far as Kalgoorlie.
No damage has been reported.
