Surfers, boat crews and rock fishers are being urged to take extra care today as monster waves continue to batter the NSW coast.
The Bureau of Meteorology this morning issued a hazardous surf warning affecting millions of people from Byron Bay in the state’s far north down to the Eden Coast.
Weather forecasters say a high pressure ridge is directing moderate south to south-west winds along much of the coast, and these will become fresh to strong along the southern coast this afternoon.

It warns surf and swell conditions are expected to be hazardous for rock fishing, boating, and swimming.
Local swells are forecast to reach an average of two to three metres, but the bureau has warned wind gusts can make maximum waves twice the forecast height.
Rock fishers are being advised to avoid coastal rock platforms exposed to the ocean and seek a safe location that is sheltered from the surf.
Boaters planning to cross shallow water and ocean bars should consider changing or delaying their voyage.
Despite the giant seas, plenty of daredevil surfers braved the conditions yesterday as the sun came out after days of heavy rain.
South-east Queensland is also on alert with a hazardous surf warning issued for the Gold Coast, where dangerous swells are pounding the coastline, prompting safety warnings for beachgoers.
Authorities say conditions could intensify and they are urging people to stay out of the water.
