A girl, 11, has died in Wacker Quay, a popular beauty spot in Cornwall.
The unnamed child from Devon got into trouble in the waters of the River Lynher near Torpoint at around 6pm yesterday.
Paramedics trudged through the muddy terrain into the night to save the youngster, setting up floodlights along the shoreline.
But the girl was declared dead at the scene shortly after being pulled from the river, the police confirmed to Metro today.
Her next of kin have been informed.
