Parts of Australia that have received a soaking this month may not get much of a reprieve, according to the Bureau of Meteorology.

Most of eastern Australia – including Sydney – is expected to exceed median rainfall between September and December.

The harbour city, which has experienced record rainfall this month, has a 65 per cent chance of receiving above average rain in the month of October.

Some inland parts of NSW, Queensland and the Northern Territory have an 80 per cent chance of receiving more rain than usual in spring.

Sydney usually receives between 63mm and 67mm of rain on average in September and October, though this rises to 90mm in November.

Daily temperature lows usually sit between eight and 12 degrees, with daytime highs reaching up to 24 degrees on average.

It is also set to be a warmer season for much of the country, with minimum and maximum temperatures expected to be above average.

Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane have an 80 per cent chance in October alone of having above average temperatures, and this is expected to be the case for all of spring.

Some parts of Australia won’t be subject to this extreme, however.

Parts of southern Western Australia, including Perth, have up to an 80 per cent chance of having lower rainfall over the spring months, and less extremes in temperature.
